When and where was the first uniform worn in the United States?

The first movement to allow uniform at school was in 1980s. I could not find 'who' first said that uniforms should be introduced in the United States, but the supporters were for thisidea in that they can cut across social barriers. On the other hand, Nortre Dame and the Unirversity of Alabama condusted that the school uniforms do nothing to the students. Against this experiment, school starts to make students wear school uniforms in the United States.
